We have an excellent opportunity for a dynamic School Transport Manager with experience of managing an operational team in a fast-paced working environment at this local authorities Layton depot in Blackpool, Lancashire.

Our client is the local authority of the Borough of Blackpool, Lancashire and is a unitary authority, having the powers of a county council and district council combined.

About the role

As a School Transport Manager, you will support the Integrated Transport Service Manager to develop the home to school transport service, ensuring it operates efficiently and meets the needs of service users. This will include managing the children’s home to school transport team, developing strong relationships with key partners and families, developing and implementing service improvement plans, and reviewing statutory policies and procedures and your responsibilities will include:

  • Be the lead contact between the SEND service, Social Services, head teachers at special and mainstream schools applying for home to school transport to identify and implement the most cost-effective and suitable transport arrangements for their needs
  • Develop and deliver training and provide ongoing support to the SEND Team and school staff to improve awareness and understanding of the Home to School & College Transport Policy, to improve the quality and eligibility of applications
  • Manage the Children’s Transport Team to ensure the provision is operating efficiently, effectively
  • Manage the Independent Travel Training Team to ensure independent travel training is made available to every suitable young person accessing children’s transport

About you

In the role of School Transport Manager, it is essential that you have an ILM Level 5 or equivalent management qualification and a full driving licence and you must be / have:

  • Experience in reviewing and implementing systems and procedures to improve efficiency and customer service
  • Experience in developing strong working relationships with key partners demonstrating excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • You will have substantial knowledge and understanding of the relevant policies and legislation underpinning the delivery of local authority transport provision
  • Knowledge of best practice for home to school transport provision and the transporting of children
  • Knowledge and understand of local government, current service delivery methods and how the home to school transport provision can be improved
  • Knowledge of the government legislation and local authority responsibilities in the provision of home to school transport
  • Knowledge in how to develop strong working relationships with key partners and parents/ guardians of service users
  • Knowledge of how to effectively deal with conflict and challenge
  • Knowledge of how to develop and implement business proposals to improve efficiency and quality of service
  • Excellent judgement, analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
  • Highly effective communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet demanding deadlines
  • Experience of managing a team of frontline staff in a busy operational environment
  • Considerable experience of working with senior school staff, SEND teams and families
  • Experience of developing strong partnerships to improve service delivery
  • Experience of working with home to school transport or similar operational provision from either a school or local authority perspective

About the rewards
For the role of School Transport Manager, you will work 37 hours per week and you will receive an excellent salary of £31,895 to £34,373 per annum depending on experience.
