We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a school in Totnes. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact on the educational experience of a child with specific learning needs, helping them thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment.

About the Role:
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to a student, working closely with the class teacher to ensure the child’s academic, social, and emotional development. You will play a crucial role in helping the student engage with the curriculum, overcome challenges, and build confidence in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities of a 1:1 Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide individual support to a student, both in and out of the classroom
  • Assist with lesson delivery and ensure the student is able to access the curriculum
  • Implement strategies to support the student’s learning and development, as outlined by the class teacher or SENCO
  • Monitor the student’s progress and provide feedback to the teacher and parents
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes the student’s well-being
  • Work closely with other staff members to ensure the student’s needs are met
  • Support the student in developing social and communication skills

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, ideally in a 1:1 or SEN support role (preferred but not essential)
  • A passion for supporting children’s learning and development
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong relationships with children
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to the child’s needs
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
