Residential Support Worker

Role: To support the learning, emotional, and social needs of children/young people within the residential home. The Residential Support Worker will be required to participate in recording, monitoring, and evaluating individual child strategies/support.

Duties: This job description outlines the general duties expected of the post-holder. However, duties may vary or be amended without changing the responsibility level.

Hours of Work: Residential Care Workers are required to work hours necessary to fulfill their tasks, as determined by management. Unsociable hours, including weekends, evenings, and Bank Holidays, are part of the role.

Location: Tring (Hertfordshire)

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the educational, social, emotional, and behavioral development of children/young people under management guidance.
  2. Help develop the house environment ensuring high standards of care within the model of care.
  3. Implement and monitor Personal Education Programmes and Individual Care Plans.
  4. Provide primary care support to children/young people, fostering healthy attachments.
  5. Responsible for children/young people during shifts under supervision.
  6. Participate in sleeping-in duties as required.
  7. Maintain good relationships with professionals, team members, parents, and agencies.
  8. Support and evaluate children’s emotional and behavioral development and social skills.
  9. Monitor health and safety in accordance with legal requirements and best practices.
  10. Participate in mandatory and other training sessions.
  11. Engage in ongoing supervision and develop understanding of children’s behavior.
  12. Develop specific work projects with children/young people under supervision.
  13. Maintain high standards of communication and documentation.
  14. Contribute to children’s development through activities inside and outside the home.

Standards and Quality Assurance:

  1. Support Caridon’s ethos as per the Statement of Purpose.
  2. Set a good example in dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  3. Attend staff meetings and undertake assigned duties.
  4. Perform other reasonable duties as required.

Health & Safety:

  1. Observe fire and health & safety regulations.
  2. Develop and implement equal opportunities objectives promoting equality for all children/young people and staff.
  3. Promote a positive approach to all children/young people and ensure services reflect this.

Qualifications:

Hold the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People\’s Workforce or be willing to work towards it within six months of probation.

Requirements:

Attributes:

  • Experience working with children in care or school settings.
  • Good educational achievement and ability to produce clear reports.
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training, including Positive Management of Challenging Behavior.
  • Willing to complete the Level 3 Diploma.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of Race Equality, Equal Opportunities, and their impact on service delivery.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices.
  • Understanding of Child Protection procedures.

Skills and Abilities:
