Innotech Partners are excited to introduce a brand-new position within our clients growing LED team: LED Design Engineer.

As the first dedicated LED Design Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical design offering within the team. You'll work within the LED Project Management team

This is a highly varied and hands-on position combining on-site technical surveys and assessments with in-office design and CAD work. You'll be instrumental in ensuring that lighting systems are safe, effective, and tailored to each project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out technical site surveys (approximately 50% of the time), capturing relevant design data and translating it into effective solutions.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their requirements and user needs.
  • Create, modify, and optimise lighting layouts using AutoCAD or equivalent software.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation, schematics, and installation drawings.
  • Work with the project management team to adapt designs through the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in the selection of appropriate lighting equipment and ensure designs are energy-efficient and compliant.
  • Ensure all design work meets the latest industry standards, including wiring regulations and relevant lighting codes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including contractors, estates teams, and installers.
  • Travel to client sites across the UK, including London, the South East, South West, North West, and Midlands, with occasional overnight stays depending on project location and schedule.

What We're Looking For

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with either:

  • A strong background in electrical installation who is now looking to step into a more technical design role, or
  • A recent graduate with a relevant degree (e.g., Lighting Design, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline) who is ready to begin their career in a hands-on, practical setting.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Understanding of lighting and lighting design principles.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design skills using tools such as AutoCAD or Revit
  • Ability to manipulate lighting layouts and draft building schematics.
  • Knowledge of 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • Proven experience designing LED lighting systems for various settings (healthcare, education, public sector).
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Desirable:

  • AM2 qualification.
  • Experience with Dialux, Relux, or similar simulation tools.
  • Awareness of sustainable and energy-efficient design practices.

What You'll Get

  • A key role in a growing, forward-looking department.
  • Opportunity to influence and shape the LED design function from the ground up.
  • Office-based role with consistent exposure to on-site work-ideal for those who enjoy both.
  • Travel costs covered.
  • Opportunities for professional development as the department continues to expand.

If you're seeking a technically challenging role with a mix of design and fieldwork-and you want to be part of a growing team making a real impact in energy efficiency and lighting-we'd love to hear from you.
