Product Design Specialist

Huhtamaki Foodservice Delta Ltd produce folded carton packaging solutions to FMCG customers and Quick Service Restaurants across Europe. The manufacturing sites in Belfast and Antrim are part of the Fiber Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania (EAO) business segment which offers high quality molded fiber and paperboard packaging for fresh food and beverages across Europe, Asia and Oceania. We serve the FMCG market, quick service and fast casual restaurants, coffee shops and vending operators as well as egg, fruit and vegetable producers. We are looking for a Product Design Specialist for the FMCG Category, based in Belfast. As Product Design Specialist you will be responsible for the design and development of new packaging solutions required to answer the customers needs, trends, market & legislative requirements. You will engage internal & external stakeholders and manage the projects together with customers as well as technology or material providers. You will assist the commercial function with products and materials that provide growth opportunities and the operations team with efficiency improvements and margin enhancement. Main Responsibilities To include: Deliver market leading packaging concepts, meeting customers requirements including digital and physical product mock-ups. Pro-actively develop concepts for new and emerging markets, considering new materials and processes. Coordinate creation of technical drawings internally, with customers and the involved suppliers. Deliver cost saving and value add solutions, in line with customer briefs or requirements, that are optimized for efficient manufacture and to the required performance standard. Manage the FMCG project portfolio and pipeline and all internal & external stakeholders. Manage the briefing and internal management of new customer requests. Brief technology & material providers. Lead the entire product development project stages, including technical risks management and project timelines. Patent and protect Huhtamaki concepts developed for the FMCG product category. Work closely with other Product Development Specialist and Managers to ensure knowledge and technology sharing across segments. Organize and assist tests and production trials, and generate trial reports Provide technical support to customers to ensure optimization of packaging during production. Provide all necessary information to the Quality team for the creation of specifications for all new products. Work towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to drive plastic reduction and support Huhtamaki 2030 sustainability goals. Essential Criteria 3 + years experience working within a packaging design function Experience of product development and design processes Understanding of manufacturing processes Ability to liaise with customers both internally and externally and manage expectations Relevant degree in Engineering with specialties in packaging and / or food High level of spoken and written English Desirable Criteria Experience of folded carton packaging design Understanding of Lithographic and Flexographic print applications Continuous Improvement Skills: Packaging Design Customer Focus FMCG
