Job Description

We are recruiting for a Technical Author on contract to work for a leading Defence organisation. The role is predominantly Remote with only 2-4 days per month required in their Stevenage offices.

Responsibilities:

  • To write technical documentation in Standard Generalised Mark-up Language (SGML), Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) and traditional formats for the Company's products in accordance with individual contractual requirements
  • To enable safe and effective operation and repair of the equipment.
  • The role covers the whole product life cycle through design, development and in-service support.

Skillset/experience required:

  • Experienced in the production of technical documentation with a detailed knowledge of MoD publication standards ASD S1000D and AESP.
  • Ideally qualified to HND/HNC or equivalent level in an engineering related subject or ex forces senior technician.
  • Knowledge of SGML editing software (Arbortext Epic), Common Source Data Bases (CSDB for S1000D) and Desktop Publishing systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with ILS Managers and Design Engineers.
  • Ability to work independently, taking ownership for packages of work in terms of scheduling and status reporting in order to meet Company and Customer expectations.

A qualification in Electrical or Mechanical engineering demonstrated with few years of experience. HNC/HND. Degree Level is also acceptable but not a requirement.

Experience in end to end amendment/production of Technical Documentation to Operate and Maintain equipment.

Experience in a Maintenance or problem/fault finding and correction is a bonus but not essential.

Defence/Aerospace/Automotive/Heavy Industry such as Power Plants or other Engineering Production companies.

Technical Author/Technical Documentation Writer/Technical Publication Author

S1000D Compliance & experience. Working in Data Module Format.

Use of STE.

Experience with Abortext Editor, Framemaker authoring software's or other XML/SGML editing softwar

The role also interacts with multiple engineering depts. – ILS, LSA, Commercial etc.
