The Vacancy

We’re looking for an experienced Team Leader with proven management experience to join Field Studies Council Juniper Hall. In this senior role, you’ll manage and mentor a passionate education team, oversee curriculum delivery, and contribute to the strategic management of the centre alongside the Centre Manager.

What you’ll be doing

In this senior role, you will:

  • Lead and manage the education team, providing guidance, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Develop, plan, and oversee the delivery of high-quality curriculum-linked learning experiences that increase students’ understanding of nature and the environment.
  • Support the Centre Manager in running the day-to-day operations of the centre and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Participate in some hands-on teaching in the field, working with students of all ages on a variety of science and geography programmes.

Where you’ll be based

Juniper Hall is a 17th-century country house set in a peaceful wooded valley at the edge of Box Hill, Surrey, in an unspoilt area of the chalk North Downs. Surrounded by beautiful grounds and steeped in history, it’s a friendly and rewarding place to work.

Our location offers easy access to a variety of outdoor field sites, providing visitors with hands-on learning opportunities in subjects such as grassland and woodland ecology, urban and rural regeneration, fluvial studies, freshwater ecology, and coastal management.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record of managing and developing teams, with:

  • Degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience, with the confidence to produce and prepare teaching resources, activities and lesson plans that meet curricular requirements

You will also have:

  • A strong work ethic and pride in the quality of your work
  • A flexible, adaptive approach, able to work independently and as part of a team
  • A professional manner and empathy with the Field Studies Council’s mission
  • Commitment to personal development and motivation to take on new challenges
