Job Description:

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our 14-16 Alternative Provision at Bradford College as an RS & Social Studies Lecturer.

The 14-16 provision caters for approximately 200 young people who are accessing an alternative education programme, either as a referral from their current secondary school or as home-educated children. The provision has learners with a range of backgrounds and academic abilities, some with EHCPs and others with undiagnosed additional learning needs as well as social, emotional, and behavioural issues. We are a nurturing provision that prides itself on a strong pastoral and well-being support network.

Your approach with students should be respectful and professional at all times, exercising patience, empathy, and understanding of their backgrounds and needs. You should have sound knowledge of the social, economic, and personal factors which present risk to students, and be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities include:

  • To teach on RS & Social Studies courses specified by the Head of 14-16 within the college.
  • To participate actively in the development of the curriculum.
  • To participate actively in the enrolment, induction, monitoring, profiling, and initial assessment of students on college courses either in the community or on the college sites.
  • To devise individual learning plans and provide support for learners to drive their progress in learning, to meet/exceed their targets and enable them to reach their career goals.
  • To be responsible for students’ academic progress, wellbeing, positive behaviour, and careers throughout their learning journey.
  • To seek out and respond to the student voice – seeing students as primary stakeholders in their learning.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and management of students on placements and offsite visits and activities where appropriate.
  • To act as academic and pastoral tutor to assigned students.
  • To implement and promote College regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • To participate in relevant Course Committee activities.
  • To undertake invigilation duties as required.
  • To participate actively in the maintenance and promotion of close links with employers and training agencies.
  • To participate in College Open Days; career events and promotional events both on and off College premises.
  • To provide appropriate information to parents/employers through college reporting systems and open evenings.
  • To assist the departmental management team with costings and control of materials and equipment when specified.
  • To undertake additional duties that may be required commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post.
