Overview

The Breaking Barriers Project works with Children and Young People (CYP) and Families affected by the imprisonment of a parent or close family member. The service provides one-to-one support to help CYP maintain a connection with the imprisoned parent/loved one, support emotional wellbeing, and build resilience to reach their full potential. The role contributes to reducing reoffending and improving outcomes for children and young people, in line with Ormiston Families’ aims.

The post holder will deliver outcome-based support to address the needs of children and young people with a parent/carer or close family member in prison who may feel isolated or excluded at home or in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out initial assessments with parents/carers and partner agencies following referrals to the service and identify agreed outcomes for children and young people.
  • Deliver one-to-one work in the home, schools, online, and other community settings, coordinating packages of support with CYP and other agencies where appropriate to meet complex needs, reduce risks, and improve safety and emotional well-being and development.

Requirements

  • Experience as a practitioner confident in working with children, young people and families.
  • Organised, self-motivated, and passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Must live near the County of Norfolk to enable direct work with Children, Young People and Families.
  • UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as travel across the county is required.
