The Role

The EPSRC has renamed the previous EPSRC DTP Doctoral Prize Fellowships as DLA Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowships (DLA PPF).

The Fellowship includes a 24-month fixed-term academic salary based on Grade F, point 27, £35,116, plus a research project budget (to be calculated and requested as part of your application in discussion with your project sponsor) with a maximum budget of £15,000. Additional project funds can also be sought outside of the EPSRC DLA grant.

To be eligible, you must have received EPSRC funding during your PhD studies, including those recruited via the Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) and Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs). EPSRC funded candidates not based at Newcastle University are also welcome to apply.

You should propose a novel research project within the EPSRC’s funding remit here. The fellowship aims to develop independent researchers, encouraging movement into new research areas and demonstrating the ability to work independently from your PhD supervisor. It also offers opportunities to publish PhD work, develop research networks, facilitate knowledge transfer, and conduct outreach activities.

Applicants should identify a \’Project Sponsor\’ who is a Newcastle University employee willing to support your project and host it in their research facilities. Discuss your research proposal with them in advance.

Recipients may have an independent mentor for advice and support during the fellowship. Newcastle University commits to providing support, development opportunities, and periodic review meetings to discuss career development.

Required documentation:

  • A brief academic CV with 2 referees
  • Qualification certificates and transcripts
  • Letter of support from the academic sponsor
  • Research proposal proforma (see link below)
