Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O\’Rourke, two of Europe\’s most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion.

Bylor are responsible for the Design & Build (D&B) including fit out and handover of the HBX Operations Service Centre (OSC) within Hinkley Point C. The building is a mixed use warehouse/office/laboratory/restaurant and office building which connects to both Unit 1& 2 Turbine Halls via sky bridges.

Experience in the following packages:

Spaces= Basement (B20/B10)- plant rooms/secure areas/laboratory/switch rooms/changing room/showers

L00-L20= Warehouse/workshop space- industrial space- gantry crane/workshops/mini Amazon warehouse type are/racking storage

L30= restaurant/intermediate roof with balustrade/catering fit-out

L40-50= traditional office space/glazed partitions/drylining/raised access floor/painting/FF&E

L60= roof plant space- large MEP equipment/secondary steel gantries/plant rooms

Purpose of the role:

The Section Manager will work directly with the construction manager and ensure that the project is built to the right quality, to the highest standards of safety and in line with the agreed schedule. The Section Manager will be responsible for a floor/zone within the HBX and report to the construction manager. The role will interface with multiple Tier 2 and direct labour so strong communication and organisational skills required.

Key responsibilities and specific accountabilities:

  • Sub-contract management
  • Managing daily the sub-contractors on a floor/zone basis
  • Monitor labour and material resource levels for each package
  • Daily diary of progress and notable actions
  • Contribute to the overall logistic plan of the site for your specific packages
  • Chair and assist package interface meeting in both design and construction space
  • Responsible for ensuring works meet the correct quality benchmarks and specification including the use of electronic record systems (FV/Snagmaster or similar)
  • Design input- ensure design is buildable and coordinate with design team in timely manner to ensure works comply with the clients specification
  • Review and input into SHEQ documentation inclusive of RAMS/ITPs/QA etc
  • Assist with LTQRs and handover of area/rooms/levels in line with procedures and schedules
  • Assist with overall logistics and plans to facilitate the works

Essential skills & knowledge:

Technical Skills:

  • Buildings experience of 1- 5yrs + – specific to internal/fit out trades-understands the interfaces and complexities of a building project
  • Methodical thinker and action taker
  • Construction management or civil engineering degree
  • Strong organisational and time management skills- candidate will be responsible for multiple packages
  • BIM -2D and 3D at basic-intermediate level- additional training will be provided. Use of NAVISworks is desirable
  • Understand and create programmes/schedules of work

Interpersonal Skills:

  • A strong communicator with the ability to work within a team environment
  • Respects other team members across all functions and has a one team approach.
  • Presents a professional image and promotes the values of the project
  • Demonstrates commitment to work to processes
  • Self motivated

Education & Qualifications:

  • Must hold a degree in Building/Construction management or Civil engineering with relevant building experience
  • IOSH/SMSTS or equivalent safety accreditation

Additional Information:

All positions with Bylor are employed directly with either Laing O\’Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public and include competitive salaries, private medical insurance, company pension schemes and annual holiday allowance. Some grades will also include a company car allowance.

Unless stated otherwise all positions are based at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
