Role description:
We are looking for a Project Controls Manager to join our Nuclear Consultancy business supporting some of the UK's largest Nuclear work. The projects combine both new build and decommissioning within a structured collaborative environment working with colleagues who are focused on innovative solutions and teamwork where the focus is on delivery of programme outputs.
As part of our Programme and Project Management team, you'll help deliver some of the biggest, most iconic projects imaginable, with some of the best talent around. With your energy, agility and a keen eye for detail, you'll deliver transformational outcomes for multiple clients every day.

Role accountabilities:
- To act as the focal point for project controls on the site and to integrate all project controls activities within the portfolio of projects undergoing delivery at site.
- Supervise a team of project controls practitioners including the planning and prioritising of work, integration and review of project controls deliverables and project support.
- Closely work with Project Managers, Programme Delivery Managers, Site Integration Managers to understand requirements and project controls priorities, providing advice and insight in support of project delivery.
- Analyse performance of projects and clearly communicate progress, issues, threats and opportunities based on project controls deliverables and insights.
- Manage and drive project baseline changes for projects within the supported site project portfolio, working with the change & baseline lead in Project Controls to plan and report on progress.
- Manage and drive the control of scope and change through effective assumptions management ensuring consistency of understanding across project controls practitioners.
- Provide LOD1 assurance review of project controls deliverables in support of business case development, baseline insertion, change or other decisions requiring assurance.
- Oversee the implementation of project controls processes, systems and toolsets for the supported site project portfolio.
- Coordinate the monitoring and reporting requirements originating from project controls systems, activities ensuring that submission dates are met by the team and that insightful comment is included where appropriate
- Provide informed advice on all aspects of project controls process implementation including WBS, CBS, RBS, EVM
- Ensures the input of project controls into Work Information and pre-tender activities.
- Support the resolution of complex Early Warnings/Compensation Events across multidisciplined project teams, ensuring the outcomes are reflected in project controls products and progressed through change control where necessary.
- Interpret and report upon Earned Value Management metrics and other significant project KPIs that form Project Controls.
- Plan and develop the project controls practitioners that report to this position and develop mid to long term resource plans based upon anticipated demand for project controls support. Plan succession, training and development plans collaboratively with the Project Controls functional leads.
- Support the Programme/Project Delivery Manager in the preparation and review of the business planning cycle ensuring funding requirements of the projects are correctly captured.
- Generally, the PCM Works autonomously at Sites to ensure the provision of a project control service, overseeing people and activities.
- Liaise with sanction and assurance, and the risk bureau to ensure that risk and governance related activities are planned for and that any change in status that impacts either sanction or contingency requirements are communicated.
- Manage apprentice and graduate development where early career staff are assigned to the PCMs site.
- Escalate as appropriate to the project manager and PMO line management as necessary, issues of project performance resulting from inadequate controls, identifying and recommending recovery actions to the project teams.
Travel:
Please note part of this role will involve travel to client nuclear sites in Kent.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Supervisory experience
- At least five years' experience in a Project Control or Project Management discipline
- A solid understanding of cost, planning, change and contract management (NEC) in a project environment
- A relevant project management or project control qualification
