Job Opportunity: Customs & Compliance Controller (Interim 12 month FTC)

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Customs & Compliance Controller to join our team on a 12 month contract and will report to the Interim Customs & Compliance Manager.
You will execute activities such that GPN remains fully compliant with Customs regulations throughout the European Union and Internationally, from processing customs declarations and Export Health Certificates, to evolving end-to-end trade compliance processes, whilst maintaining strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders such as customs brokers and government agencies.
This is a key role within the Product Supply function, with the successful candidate having previous experience of customs processes. You will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the documentary requirements for each export order is completed accurately and in line with border controls of SPS goods, including processing customs declarations.
- Ownership of all of export trade & compliance activities across EMEA and internationally
- Define and adhere to import requirements across EU Border Control Posts (BCP)
- Delegate weekly Veterinary requirements across 2 UK warehouses, including close cooperation with 3PLs, customs brokers and transport carriers
- Maintain database of all POAO ingredients and the relevant approved establishments, treatment type, origin of all ingredients is defined
- Identify POAO/composite status of FGs and determine Export Health Certificate (EHC) requirements
- Monitoring & monthly reconciliation of EU duty/VAT and providing back-up documentation to Group Tax / Finance
- Oversee technical data provided to veterinary inspectors for all POAO export consignments to ensure accurate completion of EHCs
- Complete customs declarations in CDS for product exports (permanent and Inward Processing)
- Audit customs declarations produced by clearing agents
- Working closely with EU Customs agents to ensure that all imports are correctly classified for import duty & VAT
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with local authorities and representatives in all relevant territories to ensure successful importation and smooth supply of product
- Submission of COO and EUR1 for export orders via Chamber of Commerce
Support customer specific requests for information relating to customs / classification / origin related queries - Provide annual leave cover for raw material and finished goods imports, completing customs declarations in CDS
- Purchase order management and validation of invoice submissions via Ariba
The Skills you will bring to the team
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an Export/Import or Customs compliance role
- Knowledge of UK and/or EU import/ export processes & procedures, and Rules of Origin
- Understanding of customs tariff
- Strong understanding of Incoterms
- Knowledge of special customs procedures, i.e. Inward Processing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong IT proficiencies (specifically Excel and SAP)
- Financial acumen (transport budgets and spend)
- Ability to deal at all levels both internally and externally.
