We are currently recruiting for a Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join our team in Aberdeen. The role will support traditional Oil & Gas project and an LPG project in all technical safety design aspects.

Key Responsibilities and background

Responsible for ensuring that the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) aspects of the design within the project scope are maintained to the relevant acceptable standards and comply with applicable legislation.

  • Hazard identification, risk assessment and quantification
  • Review safety engineering requirements for specific projects
  • Development of risk and consequence models for hydrocarbon production and flammable gas processing plants (Offshore and Onshore)
  • Working as part of the Risk & Safety Engineering group to provide advice to Project Engineering personnel & Management on all aspects of risk reduction, mitigation and safety engineering matters
  • Ensuring the provision of technical assurance across the technical safety (DHSE) including loss prevention activities and deliverables on allocated project.
  • Leading and coordinating the activities and deliverables allocated to the location in accordance with the project schedule.
  • Gathering & compiling process safety and environmental information. Preparing Safety Engineering Plans, Philosophies and Basis of Design documents.
  • Executing Hazard Studies. Participation in Safety & Design Reviews and Hazard and Operability Studies
  • Proven ability to facilitate variety of Technical Safety Reviews
  • Recommending where any additional Technical Safety reviews are necessary because of scope change, design development, etc.
  • Ensuring designs meet and can demonstrate ALARP principals have been applied.
  • At the end of each project phase, ensuring that all lists, files reports, etc. are filed correctly, ready for input to the next project phase.

Critical Skills & Personal Attributes

  • Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Chartered or Professional accreditation
  • Proven experience in a Risk & Safety Engineering role demonstrated through previous projects
  • Relevant experience in technical audits, hazard identification, risk assessment, quantification and mitigation techniques
  • Competent report writing & Data Base development skills using MS Office software tools, Word, Excel, Access
  • All round energy industry experience from traditional oil & gas, Offshore hydrocarbon & Onshore hydrocarbon, chemical plant to sustainability project experience (CCUS, H2, etc)
