Description
We are convinced that HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology, used for energy transfer over long distances with minimal losses, is a sustainable solution. It is essential for offshore wind power and underwater transmissions, connecting electricity networks efficiently.
As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer at HVDC, you will design and lead the control cabinet layout, including hundreds of circuit boards for measurements, control, and calculations. The system also includes user interfaces such as HMI, diagnostic tools, and IT infrastructure, utilizing our in-house real-time platform MACH.
Location: Glasgow, UK. Please note, visa support is not provided for this position.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Implement control and protection hardware solutions for HVDC/HVAC systems.
- Design cubicles, integrating hardware components.
- Create Bill of Materials and terminal diagrams, coordinate with manufacturers, and perform inspections.
- Prepare cable lists and termination schedules.
- Develop design specifications and overview diagrams in collaboration with concept coordinators.
- Participate in design reviews, identify errors, and implement improvements.
- Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders.
- Prepare documentation such as CBD, PCD, cable schedules, and termination tables.
- Validate design drawings and documents provided by suppliers.
- Support functional tests and site commissioning, designing cubicle layouts with access points, earthing, and cable routing.
- Work with customers to meet their requirements and standards.
- Collaborate with engineering colleagues and share best practices.

Your Background
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Experience leading engineering teams.
- Knowledge of control & protection panel design (CRP).
- Site experience in testing and commissioning is a plus.
- Technical coordination with suppliers and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and offices.
- Problem-solving skills and effective communication abilities.
- Experience with CAD tools like Engineering Base or Ruplan is valuable.
- EMC knowledge or experience with AC substations/control systems is a merit.
- Based in the UK with the right to work there.
