PREMIER LEAGUE COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME: The successful candidate will divide their time between Chelsea FC Academy Coach employment and the Premier League Coach Development Programme
The Opportunity
Chelsea FC in partnership with the Premier League, Professional Footballers Association (PFA), and English Football League (EFL) are proud to be able to support the Professional Player to Coach Scheme (PPCS) for the 2025/26 season. We’re offering a 23-month, full time Academy coaching role to the successful candidate to support the next generation of football coaches. The scheme is open to all, and we particularly welcome applications from individuals from Black, Asian and mixed heritage backgrounds, as they are underrepresented groups amongst coaching roles that exist in the professional game.
PPCS provides a 23-month fixed-term employment opportunity and development programme for the successful candidate. The club will act as the ‘base’ of employment and the individual will work across a variety of football functions within the club to broaden their learning experience. You’ll split your time between Academy coaching at Chelsea FC and the Premier League’s accredited Coach Development Programme. On successful completion of all programme elements, you’ll be awarded a Diploma in Professional Football Coaching from Leeds Beckett University”.
As an Individual Development Plan (IDP) coach, you will support the on-pitch and off-pitch coaching delivery of the Academy Blueprint, to a single age group, within the Youth Development Phase. Leading the Individual Player Blue Review Cycle, you will be responsible for maximising the development of a group of our young players, in line with the Chelsea Coaching Methodology (4C’s).
Key Responsibilities
- Coaching – ensure the effective coaching delivery of the Academy Blueprint to maximise player potential, whilst efficiently overseeing various processes tailored to manage talent across our age groups.
- Tracking Performance and Feedback – utilising our performance systems, manage & track player and team progress.
- Personal Development – engage in professional and personal development through the PPCS
- Character – display high standards of conduct and behaviours in-line with our football club values and policies, to create a safe and positive environment for all.
Person Specification: What you will bring to the role
- PFA Member
- UEFA B Licence (Registered on or completed)
- FA Safeguarding Certificate, Emergency First Aid, and Enhanced DBS (to be completed prior to role commencement)
- No prior full-time First Team or Academy coaching role at a Premier League or EFL club
- Ability to effectively manage player, parent, and staff relationships.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Prepared to work unsociable hours including evenings and weekends.
- Prepared to travel on tours in the UK & Europe.
- Coaching experience within the relevant age groups in an Academy or an alternative elite coaching environment.
- UEFA A Licence or FA Advanced Youth Award
