Job Description Job Description Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about making the world a better place? We are looking for Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineers to join our expanding Reactor Operations team, based in the UK. In this role, you will lead and manage a diverse and challenging range of complex projects for our clients, with opportunities to work within AtkinsRéalis design teams or directly with our clients by being embedded into their major programmes. In Reactor Operations, your core work will involve leading the design and substantiation of mechanical equipment to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency, to enable the continued operation and life extension of our UK fleet of nuclear power stations and nuclear-powered submarines. Our team also work closely with our Power New Build business, supporting Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and the development of Small Modular Reactors and Fusion Energy reactors, as well as our Decommissioning business, supporting the safe dismantling, processing and packaging of nuclear waste at the UK\’s nuclear estate at Sellafield and across the UK\’s decommissioning power stations and nuclear-powered submarines. Your purpose: – Leading on the delivery of a wide range of mechanical engineering projects. – Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams. – Performing feasibility and optioneering studies to generate design solutions to problems. – Development of engineering solutions through the design lifecycle; Concept, Scheme, Detailed Design and Construction. – Supporting the development of bids and value propositions. – Management of project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. – Confidently liaising with, presenting to, and influencing stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally, in understanding their issues, goals, and processes and to build strong, lasting relationships. – Supporting and developing the careers of junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. What you can bring: – Degree qualified mechanical engineer, or other relevant qualification. – Chartered or incorporated with a relevant professional institute e.g., IMechE. – Experience leading the design and/or substantiation of mechanical equipment, which could include mechanical handling systems, machinery, test rigs, or mechanical components. – Experience operating engineering software for production of 3D CAD models, drawings, calculations, and Finite Element Analysis models. – Experience working within design codes, standards and regulations typical for the engineering industry e.g., ASME, Eurocodes, BS EN13001, RCC-M, machinery directive, HS&E legislation. – Experience in hazard / fault identification studies e.g., ERICPD, HAZOP, HAZAN, FMEA. – Experience in writing, checking, reviewing, and approving technical reports and documentation e.g., design calculations, basis of design, safety case reports, design reports. – You are comfortable using your own judgement when managing uncertainty and technical risk. – You are excited when you identify new opportunities, win work and contribute to growth. – Previous experience of working in the UK nuclear defence industry.
