We welcome applications from passionate, skilled, and committed individuals to join this exciting, collaborative project and help propel climate-positive technology-based companies to demonstration, commercialization, and growth.

About the Role

The core purpose of this role is to use your diagnostic skills and expertise in manufacturing and technology scale-up processes to help accelerate the commercialization of climate-tech innovation. This will be achieved by identifying and understanding the key barriers to scale-up of emerging technologies and enabling access to expertise and facilities across the UK that can help to overcome those barriers.

For instance, EarthScale is a multi-regional, cross-institutional Research England Development funded project involving 5 universities, led by Imperial College London. It aims to transform innovative UK-based climate start-ups into world-leading scale-ups. The post holder will work with advanced start-up companies engaged with EarthScale to understand and ‘triage’ their technical challenges, provide recommendations, and connect them with relevant facilities and expertise for progress towards commercialization.

Drawing on and leveraging the available knowledge-base support ecosystem (e.g., academic expertise), the postholder will diagnose issues within technical scale-up processes (e.g., formulation, materials, system integration, manufacturing), standardize this process, and develop tailored support plans for each business. They will also provide bespoke support to enable prototype development, manufacturing strategies, and trial setups, utilizing facilities like hackspaces, labs, and specialist trial facilities.

You will ensure project funding (e.g., innovation vouchers) is channeled to access academic expertise, facilities, and spaces to advance technology. This process aims to stimulate pro bono support from ecosystem partners and support participants in navigating certification and procurement laws. The role includes dissemination activities such as case studies, social media, and leveraging networks, as well as working with policy and advocacy partners to amplify the voice of scale-up participants.

You will be responsible for meeting KPIs related to accelerator activities, attracting and recruiting UK innovators, managing project portfolios, and delivering reports. Additionally, you will serve as a reviewer for funded initiatives to ensure the best projects are supported.

About You

You will have a degree related to Cranfield’s core themes or equivalent experience, with demonstrable support for technical innovation and scale-up, successful project management, and effective communication with diverse teams.
