As our new Assistant Product Owner, you will maximise the value of products by creating and delivering digital product change through managing backlogs, prioritizing work for development teams, and accepting new features, tools, and other deliverables according to agreed ways of working; and to embed change through rolling out new processes and documentation, and training end-users on new features and tools.

You will work on the SAAS product Avallain Author, a digital authoring tool. Your focus will be on delivering new features, bug fixes and functional change, supporting Editorial in using the platform to create interactive content, setting up projects and templates for new products, and providing support and training where needed.

This role is responsible for managing and prioritising product backlogs, translating high-level requirements into deliverable user stories, and ensuring alignment with business goals. It supports product change by acting as the voice of the customer, collaborating with delivery teams, and defining acceptance criteria. The role involves close coordination with UX teams to refine user experience, facilitates change by providing training and documentation, and supports the full product lifecycle—including incident resolution, stakeholder communication, and ensuring compliance with policies such as security and accessibility standards.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

  • Experience of delivering change in a digital product environment.
  • Experience of working in a digital delivery role (e.g. product owner, project manager, business analyst, platform manager, product manager etc.).
  • Demonstrable experience of creating and rolling out processes, documentation, and training materials, and of embedding change.
  • Understanding of education, in particular schools and teachers and what drives them is desirable
  • Experience of working with Agile methodologies and tools is desirable

Please note that this part time role is a job share, working 3 days a week.

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect to working patterns, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.

We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.

This role comes with the added benefit of a discretionary annual payment.
