Salary: Consultant £111,430 – £148,064 (pro rata) per annum with scale placing as appropriate to previous experience. A 5% supplement applies for participation in the out of hours rota.

Borders General Hospital is a modern and well-equipped 284 bed DGH serving the rural Borders area in South East Scotland, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh. The Hospital has established links with the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh, with opportunities for joint working.

We are located at the edge of the attractive small town of Melrose. Melrose has been ranked by the Sunday Times as ‘The Best Place to Live in Scotland’. The Scottish Borders offers an outstanding quality of life with reasonably priced housing in small towns, villages or the countryside. A r elocation package/assistance, with the possibility of temporary accommodation in the local area is available for the successful candidate.

The Role

A General Paediatrician is required for our integrated acute/community child health service in the Scottish Borders. You may be a general paediatrician but may also have areas of special interest complimentary to the current Consultant team.

The Hospital implemented an innovative Paediatric Hospital at Night redesign a decade ago, first call resident cover is provided by experienced Paediatric and Neonatal Nurse Advanced Practitioners supported by consultants within a minimum recall time. Training is highly regarded locally, there are Speciality Trainees for community child health and acute paediatrics experience and General Practice Trainees.

Candidates must hold MRCP or equivalent certificate eg MRCPH must also be fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice ideally on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at interview date.
