Job Description

Job Title: Family ClerkLocation: ChesterSalary: £25,000 – £40,000 (DOE)Contact: Millie | Simpson Judge LegalThe OpportunityI'm currently working with a well-established and highly respected set based in Chester, who are looking to appoint a Family Clerk to support the continued growth of their Family Law team.This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with clerking experience – particularly in family law – or a background in a similarly fast-paced legal environment, looking to join a professional and collaborative team. You'll be working with a highly regarded group of barristers instructed across public and private children matters, finance, and property cases throughout the North West, Midlands and Wales.The RoleYou'll work closely with the Senior Family Clerk and colleagues to ensure the efficient running of the Family team and deliver a high standard of service to both barristers and clients.Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a point of contact for all client and counsel enquiries
  • Advising solicitors and clients on availability, suitability of counsel, and applicable fees
  • Managing diary reallocation and logistics for hearings and conferences
  • Liaising with courts, counsel, and instructing solicitors to pre-empt and resolve scheduling issues
  • Supporting with business development and identifying new client opportunities
  • Maintaining strong client relationships and promoting excellent client service
  • Recording court outcomes and case updates from counsel
  • Adhering to internal policies and procedures

About YouTo succeed in this role, you'll need to be organised, proactive, and confident working in a busy legal environment. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Experience clerking in family law (preferred but not essential)
  • Alternatively, relevant experience in legal administration, court services, or chambers support
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A team player with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage your own workload and respond quickly to last-minute changes
