Mobile Fitter

Location: Oban or Fort William (Corpach) Area

Full Time / Permanent, 40 Hours per week, Monday – Friday, on site

BEAR Scotland is a leading road maintenance and management service provider in Scotland, maintaining and improving Scottish Trunk Roads including bridges and structures through some of the most scenic, but challenging, parts of the country.

The Northwest Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling.

We have a vacancy in our Fleet team for a Mobile Fitter, to be based in either Oban or Fort William, reporting to the Fleet Manager.  This is a full-time role with a Standby Rota and Overtime available.

Role includes:

  • Repair and maintain all HGVs, equipment and plant as required
  • Safe use of variety of tools, including hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment
  • Repair and replace damage or worn parts of vehicle panelling, lights or machinery
  • Carry out vehicle road testing where necessary
  • Carry out inspections of new vehicles, prior to issuing
  • Carry out on-call (out of hours) standby on a week on week off basis
  • When on call respond and action any calls and when required attend site
  • Communicate with team members and supervisors about vehicle performance and maintenance issues
  • Comply with Health and Safety procedures
  • Record work carried out and ensure good housekeeping

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Recognised apprenticeship or qualification in mechanical/electrical engineering
  • Mechanical knowledge of highway maintenance and winter maintenance vehicles
  • Understanding of Health and Safety at work
  • Able to service, diagnose and repair various types of vehicles
  • Experience of power tools and hand tools
  • Strong attention to detail
  • HGV licence preferred but not essential
  • Team player
  • Ability to use own initiative
