Job Description

NOV is looking for a Design Technician to join one of our Hydra Rig Business Units in Great Yarmouth.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform drafting activities as required by the Engineering department.
  • Design components for well servicing equipment based on previous examples and general engineering principles.
  • Assist in the research and development of new products.
  • Consult external vendors and internal experts as required.
  • Prepare detailed schematic drawings and process flow drawings as required.
  • Provide strong internal communication among departments to ensure equipment standardization, project coordination, and product information.
  • Participate in technical and sales meetings to ensure project feasibility considering overall equipment design.
  • Provide estimates to the Engineering Manager on completion of drawings and notify them of any project deadline concerns.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly production and project meetings.
  • Measure and sketch components in a shop or field environment.
  • Monitor fabrication of equipment to ensure design intent is met and offer feedback for design improvements.
  • Provide complete job summary reports to record possible improvements for future jobs.
  • Follow all applicable company policies, procedures, and safety/environmental requirements.
  • Maintain all company information as confidential.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned to meet customer expectations and company goals.

Education and Training

  • A qualification in Mechanical Engineering at any level up to a first degree is required.
  • Prior experience with SolidWorks is required; experience with AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Experience in designing and operating energy industry service equipment is desirable.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Project management experience and familiarity with PLM and ERP systems is an asset.
  • A full, current UK driving license is preferred.
