Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with around 1000 pupils aged 11-18. The School is situated in 35 acres of beautiful grounds in the centre of Abingdon, just south of Oxford.
Healthcare Assistant – The Role:
We are seeking to appoint a caring and committed candidate to join our small and friendly team in providing a first class healthcare service to the School\’s pupils. This is a part-time post working 18 hours per week on a shift basis which includes weekends and overnight during term time only (34 weeks per year) to commence as soon as possible after 1 September 2025. This appointment will initially be on a six month, fixed term contract basis, though this appointment may be extended by mutual agreement.
The School Health Centre is staffed between the hours of 7.45am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm on Saturdays (summer term 10.00am to 2.00pm) with an on-call service provision at all other times including Sundays and overnight. The Health Centre provides flexibility for staff interested in taking on more overnight or weekend shifts. Additionally, there are opportunities to provide first aid cover for sports matches during the Michaelmas and Lent terms.
Healthcare Assistant – Key Responsibilities:
– Provide holistic nursing care to pupils, staff and visitors, including overnight care of boarders when
required
– Provision of first aid and emergency care and treatment as necessary
– Maintain medical records accurately, confidentially and safely
– Keep records of reported accidents
– External liaison with parents, doctors, health centre staff and pharmacy. As well as school health advisers and other members of the primary health care team
– Maintain Health Centre stock, hygiene and tidiness
– Have an involvement and awareness of health and safety and safeguarding issues within the school
affecting staff, children or the environment
Healthcare Assistant – You:
– Self-sufficient and able to work on own initiative
– Flexible with the capacity to work evening and weekend shifts
– Must be an excellent team player and able to help with a variety of tasks
– Good communication skills including verbal and written (including email) skills
– Competent IT skills for email, electronic records/logs and the school management information system (iSAMS)
– Displays commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion
– Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
