The project:

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. SZC will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, playing a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved right from the start of such a historic project. Work to date has primarily focused on enabling works for site readiness. Work is commencing with great speed in the following areas: road, rail, fencing, security, water systems, utilities, and the build of modular and industrial facilities.

Responsible for the delivery of large, multiple construction packages to agreed safety standards, quality, programme and budget. Makes operational decisions on sequencing methodology whilst responsible for working with the Delivery Team to develop detailed and accurate short /mid/long term plans for successful delivery.

  • You will work as part of the Senior Construction Delivery Team, taking direction from Construction Lead and Project senior leadership team, providing guidance to wider team.

  • You will build relationships to manage and influence senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.

  • You will build a strong working relationship with your clients, and support the construction lead in turning the client’s vision into a deliverable onsite plan.

  • Works as part of the Senior Construction Delivery Team, taking direction from Construction Lead and Project senior leadership team (SLT), providing guidance to wider team.

  • Promotes and drives the businesses priorities through Construction to Production, Digital & Data and responsible business.

  • Understands and formulates short-term plans to deliver to Programme, able to communicate with and coordinate Trade/Sub Contractors. Owns Safety, Wellbeing and Quality deliverables for specific sections of the Project.

  • Contributes to establishing and maintaining Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture onsite.

  • Supports Managers in leading focussed forecast Lookahead meetings, providing authority and guidance where required.

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with Client and Design CMT, knowing QA process to final sign-off.

  • Provides comprehensive technical expertise and understanding of Mace onsite Standards for each part of the Project, where to find them, and responsible for implementation.

  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement and plans, identifies key business improvements.

  • Develops and maintain a series of both internal and external relationships.

  • Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition, and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

You’ll need to have:

  • Detailed knowledge of Construction methodology, process and inherent safety involved.

  • Detailed knowledge of digital platforms and how to implement onsite.

  • Detailed knowledge of Mace Standards, where to find them, and how to implement them.

  • Proven experience in managing multiple large packages of work.

  • Planning and budget management experience.

  • Open, with strong empathetic communication skills.

  • Aware of industry technology and advances.

  • Sound technical expertise in HSE regulations.

  • Offering an experienced perspective to all Site operations, exploring new and innovative methods.

  • Clearly communicates and ensures that each direct/indirect report knows their role and importance.

  • Acts as a role model to others.

  • Aware of their influence and responsibility onsite, leading by example, being fair and reasonable at all times.

  • Completed Apprenticeship (or equivalent).

  • Relevant NVQ or HNC (Or equivalent).

  • Experience in a site based Managerial role (or equivalent).

  • SMSTS and Managerial/Professional CSCS Card (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme).

You’ll also have:

  • Good understanding of Programme, Critical Path and Commissioning Strategy.

  • Good understanding of MEP systems and their relationship to Structure/Fit Out.

  • External, recognised accreditation (CIOB etc) (Chartered Institute of Building).

  • Aware of wider BU, Engine and overall Corporate Strategy, and understands their role within each.

  • Excellent time management.

  • Aware of own workstyle and commits to professional feedback and personal development.

  • CSCS Card.

  • Recognised Construction Training/Qualification (or equivalent).

  • Membership of MCIOB/MAPM/MRICS/MICE or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.

  • Construction management expertise.

  • Developing commercial and financial acumen.

  • Experience leading parts of construction projects within large, diverse teams.

  • Experience of building relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
