Job Description

Electrical Design Engineer – Renewable Energy (Solar PV)Location: Remote (UK-wide travel required)Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annumEmployment Type: Full-time, Permanent

A rapidly growing company in the renewable energy sector is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to support the design and delivery of Solar PV systems across a wide range of commercial and industrial projects.

This role is ideal for a qualified electrician or electrical engineer looking to move off the tools into a technical design-focused position, while still using their on-site expertise to drive quality and performance in sustainable infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site electrical surveys to assess suitability for solar PV installations

  • Identify electrical defects or installation challenges and document findings clearly

  • Prepare detailed electrical design documentation, bill of quantities, and scope of works

  • Use design software such as Trimble or ElectricalOM to create accurate system layouts

  • Liaise with technical teams to prioritise and coordinate survey activities

  • Travel nationwide as required, using a company-provided van

  • Compile and submit professional reports including photos, survey data, and recommendations

  • Ensure designs comply with industry regulations and safety standards

Requirements

  • Strong background in electrical installations and regulations

  • Experience with solar PV design and site assessment (commercial focus preferred)

  • Qualified with:

    • NVQ Level 3

    • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)

    • AM2

    • Level 3 Testing & Inspection (C&G 2391, 2394/2395)

    • Level 4 Design & Verification (C&G 2396 or EAL) – desirable

    • Solar qualification (C&G, EAL, or BPEC) – advantageous

  • Proficient in design software (e.g., Trimble, ElectricalOM)

  • Excellent IT and report-writing skills

  • Full UK driving licence (over 25 for insurance purposes)

  • Self-motivated and organised, able to manage workload and travel independently
