Job Description
The CNC Tooling Technician is responsible for building and maintaining a variety of cutting tools, simple fixtures, and gauges, as well as programming CNC machines. The role requires proficiency in precision grinding operations and the ability to operate and troubleshoot numerically controlled machines.
Responsibilities
- Perform precision grinding operations on tools and gauges for production and tool room use.
- Operate all machine tools associated with tool making proficiently.
- Create cutting tools and other associated tools and fixtures as needed.
- Maintain and organize all screw machine tooling.
- Write and maintain CNC programs, and set up and operate all CNC equipment proficiently.
- Keep machines and work area clean and orderly.
- Troubleshoot tooling, fixture, and machine problems and offer solutions.
- Use precision measuring tools proficiently.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, templates, and manuals.
- Work a weekend schedule and overtime as needed.
Essential Skills
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or two plus years of related experience and training.
- Two plus years of experience and knowledge of tool grinding and use of all appropriate grinding equipment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, percentages, and perform simple trigonometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various forms.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Mitsubishi Controls on CNC machines.
- Automation and blueprint reading.
- Ability to set up machines and understand tools.
- Proficient in using calipers, micrometers, and similar tools.
- Mechanically inclined, with experience in working with old machines.

Work Environment
The role is based in a machine shop where the employee regularly encounters moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The environment can be loud, and the area may get dirty due to oil on parts. Personal protection equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection are required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, Kansas.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 – $40.00/hr.
