Job Description
We are seeking a qualified candidate for our Substance Abuse Disorder Counselor (CADC) role at our Wilmington, Delaware location.
Some other responsibilities include:
- Provide service coordination (case management) for assigned group of participants including coordinating and monitoring the activities of the individual’s treatment team.
- Assume primary responsibility for developing writing, implementing, evaluating and revising overall treatment goals and plans in collaboration with the participant and the team.
- Take a lead role or participate in the provision of rehabilitation services. Act as liaison and consult with community agencies and families to maintain coordination in the treatment process.
- Review the comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history, mental status and diagnosis, physical health and dental health, use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., care-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and family structure and relationships.
- Maintain a permanent record of participant activity according to established methods and procedures.
- Coordinate with outside inpatient services to detoxify participants and establish linkage to outpatient treatment self-help programs (e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous), outpatient services, and residential facilities.
- Provide direct clinical services including individual supportive therapy to participants on an individual group and family basis in community settings to teach behavioral symptom-management techniques to alleviate and manage symptoms not reduced with medication and to promote personal growth and development by assisting participants to adapt to and cope with internal and external stresses.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in human service field from an accredited college or university or RN, with one of the following credentials: Licensed in Delaware state, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Certified Co-Occurring Disorder Professional (CCDP) preferred, with ongoing coursework in drug and alcohol counseling to qualify for re-certification. If not certified, must be working on this and achieve certification within appointment time,
- At least (3) three years of clinical/administrative experience in providing community support services to adults with psychiatric disabilities or at least two years of experience in direct treatment of persons with mental illness.
- Demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for participants’ rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential.
- Knowledge of mental health systems and supports.
- Knowledge of multiple support systems for substance abusers.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of focused team.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
SCOPE:
- Frequent talking listening.
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, hold, kneel, reach, stack, stoop and bend, which may include direct intervention with participants.
- Local travel required, including transporting program participants.
- Requires carrying a cell phone and being available to respond to emergency situations.
- May be required to report to work during emergencies, including inclement weather.
- May require crisis intervention in emergency situations.
