BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Hearing Officer / Administrative Law Judge / Attorney in Indianapolis, IN 46204
Position: Hearing Officer / Administrative Law Judge / Attorney
Location: Indianapolis, IN 46204
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Anticipated Start Date: 1-2 weeks
Duration: 6-month contract with potential for extension
Pay Rate: $155.56 – $207.41 per hour (W2)
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Estimated Hours: Approximately 12 hours per month
Position Overview:
The Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) will provide adjudicatory services for the administrative proceedings of the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS). The ALJ will independently schedule and conduct remote hearings, with in-person hearings held at facilities provided by INPRS in Marion County, Indiana. The ALJ must be a resident of Indiana and licensed to practice law in Indiana.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct administrative hearings related to disability benefits, retirement disputes, beneficiary issues, creditable service disputes, and overpayments.

Schedule and manage all remote and in-person hearings with appropriate notice to involved parties.

Ensure hearings are conducted in compliance with IC 4-21.5-1 et seq. and other relevant laws and regulations.

Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards throughout the hearing process.

Prepare legally sufficient decisions including findings of fact and conclusions of law.

Issue decisions within 60 days of the hearing conclusion or within 180 days if post-hearing briefs are submitted.

Maintain and submit complete hearing records in accordance with IC 4-21.5-3-33.

Manage all hearing communications with neutrality; no unilateral contact except for urgent scheduling matters.

Provide timely updates and mail decisions directly to all parties and INPRS.

Coordinate and review hearing transcripts if appeals are filed.
Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana.

10+ years of legal experience with a focus on administrative law, pension and retirement law, and employee benefits.

Strong background in regulatory compliance and statutory interpretation.

Experience in multi-disciplinary legal settings or general counsel preferred.

Legislative or lobbying experience is a plus.
