Job Description

Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a successful West Yorkshire business, to help them recruit a Principal Electrical Design Engineer.Our client is a well-established designer and manufacturer of bespoke electrical control panels and systems. They have a long history of delivering high-quality solutions to a diverse range of industries. Their mission is to enable seamless operation of complex control systems through expert engineering and craftsmanship.

The OpportunityOur client is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead their design team and play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of their engineering capabilities. The successful candidate will head a team of five design engineers and work closely with manufacturing and estimating departments to deliver innovative, reliable solutions across a varied client base.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership position with the opportunity to shape the future of the design function within a growing, forward-thinking business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, planning, and execution of control panel projects ranging in scope and complexity.

  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

  • Drive improvements in cost, quality, and efficiency through data-driven processes and KPIs.

  • Identify and implement new technologies and innovations to strengthen customer experience and create market advantage.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring high standards of service and technical delivery.

  • Provide technical governance and problem-solving across both design and manufacturing operations.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong technical background in electrical components and systems, ideally within the control panel sector.

  • Proficient in CAD software and associated engineering support tools.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing change in a quality-focused environment.

  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence at all levels.

  • Excellent communication skills, both internally and with customers ranging from SMEs to large corporations.

  • Knowledge of PLCs and software programming is advantageous but not essential.
