Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior System Administrator to support and advance our laboratory’s critical IT infrastructure. This hands-on role is embedded in a dynamic lab setting, where secure, compliant, and high-performance systems are essential to scientific operations and regulated workflows.

As part of a lean, high-impact team, you’ll take ownership of laboratory-focused IT systems, ensuring their stability, integrity, and alignment with regulatory and operational demands. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in autonomous environments, brings strategic thinking to technical execution, and excels in fast-paced, compliance-driven laboratory or research settings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and maintain the lab’s IT infrastructure, including physical and virtualized servers, storage systems, and core applications used in scientific and regulated processes.
  • Perform system administration duties—installation, configuration, monitoring, and performance tuning of servers and lab-facing applications—ensuring alignment with scientific priorities and IT best practices.
  • Implement and enforce robust security protocols to safeguard sensitive scientific and operational data, including role-based access controls, encryption strategies, and endpoint protections tailored to a regulated lab environment.
  • Collaborate closely with lab personnel, quality assurance, and internal stakeholders to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure IT solutions support day-to-day lab workflows and regulatory obligations.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, software patches, and application migrations in a way that minimizes downtime and ensures business and scientific continuity.
  • Monitor infrastructure health and proactively address performance bottlenecks to support uninterrupted lab operations and compliance with FDA, GLP, or other industry-specific standards.
  • Conduct periodic IT and system audits, working with QA and compliance teams to close gaps and uphold regulatory readiness across all lab technologies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in system administration roles, with a proven track record of managing IT infrastructure in a regulated environment.
  • Proficiency in administering and maintaining servers, storage systems, network devices, and operating systems (Windows and/or Linux).
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Hyper-V, VMware- 2011
  • Comfort working as the sole infrastructure SME in a small, agile team.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 – $57.00/hr.
