The ECB is currently making various changes in respect of its independent tribunal which is responsible for adjudicating on certain regulatory disciplinary matters within professional cricket on behalf of the ECB Board (the "Cricket Discipline Panel" or CDP").
Richard Whittam KC has been appointed as the new independent chair of the CDP (the "Chair") and the other members of the CDP (the "Panel") will now be appointed by the Chair through this recruitment process. The Chair particularly invites applications to the Panel from barristers or solicitors with sports regulatory/disciplinary expertise, former cricket players or individuals with other relevant experience within cricket and individuals with other relevant expertise/experience.

YOU’LL BE DOING
The function of the CDP is to consider cases brought before it by the Cricket Regulator in relation to the ECB’s disciplinary regulations and other rules and/or regulations which contain disciplinary powers to be discharged by the CDP (the "Regulations"). The Cricket Regulator is the body responsible for monitoring compliance with and enforcement of adherence to the game’s regulations on behalf of the ECB. The CDP acts to establish and uphold agreed standards within the game, and to ensure its integrity, independently of interests within the game and to the highest standards of regulatory practice.
The majority of cases which come before the CDP relate to a breach of the ECB’s Professional Conduct Regulations, which contain various misconduct offences including bringing the game into disrepute (which gives rise to broad and varied cases), failure to comply with the ECB Anti-Discrimination Code, failing to comply with player eligibility requirements and use of improper equipment. However, the CDP also has a role to play in relation to other Regulations, including the Anti-Corruption Code, Player and Match Officials’ Minimum Standards, cricket Playing Conditions, Bowling Review Regulations, Pitch Regulations and Head Protector Regulations.
As a member of the CDP, you will hear specific disciplinary cases (at both first instance and appeal) in accordance with the process set out in the Regulations. This will involve you familiarising yourself with relevant case papers to participate fully in the decision-making process, considering evidence and submissions and being involved in making clear, proportionate and defensible decisions, imposing relevant sanctions and preparing written decisions.
YOU’LL HAVE
Significant post-qualification experience as a barrister, solicitor and/or judge, with significant experience in sports disciplinary matters and arbitrations and experience of producing clear, comprehensive and defensible decisions.
OR
Specific knowledge and experience of the sport of cricket.
OR
Specialist experience in other relevant areas, including discrimination and corruption.
There will be training opportunities around cricket, including the structure and governance of the sport, and the Regulations, as required.
Where two or more candidates are judged as being of equal merit, priority can be to one or more candidates from underrepresented groups through an equal merit approach.
Remuneration: £400 per day of hearings for chairs and £250 per day of hearings for wing members + reasonable expenses
