Manufacturing Engineer – 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract Location: Stockport Sector: Engineering & Defence Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineer looking for your next challenge in a highly specialised engineering environment? We\’re currently offering an exciting 12-month fixed-term opportunity to join a well-established defence and engineering business at the forefront of military-grade vehicle systems and large-scale mechanical fabrications. With a history spanning more than 100 years, our client is recognised for delivering complex engineering solutions to government and defence sectors across the globe. The Role As a Manufacturing Engineer , you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting continuous improvement and operational efficiency across production. This is a hands-on position, focused on developing and refining manufacturing processes to improve quality, reduce waste, and ensure smooth product flow across large, complex fabrication projects. Key Responsibilities Support and develop manufacturing methods for large, high-spec fabrications. Drive improvements in cycle times, changeovers, and overall efficiency through lean tools and techniques. Analyse quality and production data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Coordinate cross-functional improvement plans and lead structured problem-solving initiatives (8D or similar). Apply modern manufacturing principles to reduce cost and improve delivery without compromising on safety or quality. Collaborate with design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products. Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards. Support capital investment projects and contribute to a culture of operational excellence. What We\’re Looking For HND, Higher Apprenticeship, or ideally Bachelor\’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent). Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably within an industrial, defence, or technical environment. Proven success in delivering production improvements and lean initiatives. Knowledge of complex fabrication and assembly processes. Working knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems would be advantageous. Strong problem-solving mindset, with excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
