Overview

Liverpool John Moores University International Study Centre are recruiting an Engineering Maths Tutor to join the existing teaching team. The successful candidate will teach modules in engineering and maths related subjects to students on university preparation programmes offered by the Centre. This is a part-time, variable hours – permanent contract with a salary of £38.27 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality teaching to groups of international students
  • Undertake marking and provide formative and summative feedback in line with quality standards and processes
  • Act as a Module Leader in relevant subject areas, including coordinating a team of tutors, updating module handbooks, preparing assessment analysis and review reports, and developing schemes of work
  • Deliver schemes of work, set assessments, and mark them in a timely manner
  • Teach up to a maximum of 20 hours per week (teaching contact time)
  • Implement enrichment activities across the curriculum (inside and outside the classroom)
  • Act as a personal and/or group tutor to provide academic and pastoral support
  • Maintain student punctuality, attendance and appropriate behaviour in class
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment grades, progression risk and student performance data
  • Support students to achieve strong performance during their course and in final assessments
  • Promote differentiation in the classroom
  • Promote creative use of technology-enhanced learning and ensure the VLE meets standards
  • Contribute to mid and end-of-term student reports
  • Create and update teaching materials; undertake projects as directed by senior staff
  • Provide cover where necessary and attend staff meetings/assessment boards as required
  • Stay up to date with developments in academic teaching and e-learning resources
  • Collaborate with ISC and HEI colleagues and contribute to CPD sessions
  • Carry out any other duties as required by the Head of Curriculum and Quality and/or Head of Centre

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject area
  • Masters and/or PhD in the subject area (desirable)
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in further or higher education (ideally with international students on university preparation courses at foundation level)
  • Experience developing and updating teaching materials and working with a Virtual Learning Environment
  • Experience in assessment marking and moderation (desirable)
  • Experience in assessment design (desirable)
