West Lothian Council is delivering projects to maximise recycling, supported by funding from Zero Waste Scotland and is seeking a Recycling Project Officer to join the team.
Contributing to the Council\’s waste strategy, the postholder will develop and progress improvement projects, manage monitoring and compliance systems and assist the council in meeting the aims of the Scottish Government\’s Zero Waste Plan.
Candidates must be educated to a good standard, preferably to degree level in waste management or a related environmental subject. You must have experience of working (paid or voluntary) within the waste management or related environmental industry and working towards associate membership of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management
The postholder will assist with a continuing project to introduce and improve recycling provision to flatted properties by identifying suitable sites, liaising with relevant stakeholders to agree suitable recycling and waste solutions and arranging contracts for communal bin storage areas to be built where required. They will help collate information on areas that require assistance with recycling and provide information to the Education team with a view to reducing residual waste.
The postholder will contribute to reducing Residual waste and increasing Recycling by providing data and recommendations to management.
The postholder will be part of a team that works on waste collection routing and In-cab systems, performance monitoring and improvement, and statutory data returns to SEPA, such as WasteDataFlow. This will require excellent analytical skills and experience of using relevant IT systems, along with the ability to communicate complex information to drive service improvement.
The postholder will have knowledge of current waste and recycling legislation and policy and the many changes due in the next few years, as well as experience in ensuring compliance with Waste Management Licensing/ Permits. They will also help deliver efficiencies in a challenging budget environment.
