We are looking for a motivated and friendly student who is passionate about sustainability to support the next phases of the Big Switch Off campaign, with student residences as the main focus area in this phase, alongside other energy and carbon-related engagement and communication work.

As part of the Estates & Facilities (E&F) Sustainability Team, you\’ll work with a range of stakeholders, including community facilitators, residence managers, student ambassadors, the Residences Marketing Team, and the E&F Digital Campaign Manager.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sustainability communications, engagement, and behaviour change, while making a real impact on how students live more sustainably at King\’s and how King\’s can be operated more sustainably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of the Big Switch Off campaign
  • Coordinate with community facilitators, residence managers, and student ambassadors to maximise reach and engagement
  • Collaborate with the E&F Digital Campaign Manager to co-create and distribute engaging campaign content rooted in sustainability principles
  • Assist with energy and carbon data analysis to support the creation of data-driven messaging and inform campaign development
  • Help plan and deliver events such as pop-up stalls, residence hall drop-ins, and sustainability challenges
  • Encourage student participation in competitions, pledges, and other energy-saving behaviour change initiatives
  • Collect feedback from students and stakeholders to inform campaign improvement and reporting
  • Assist in tracking participation metrics and supporting the demonstration of the campaign\’s impact
  • Assist in other engagement and communication activities and initiatives led by the energy sub-team

Tasks may include (but not limited to):

  • Develop a database and conduct data analysis to track the impact
  • Develop and align various feedback forms and student pledges
  • Support engagement activities in advance of the Big Switch Off campaign
  • Provide admin support for ad-hoc tasks
  • Collect case studies from students and staff
  • Support the running of events (e.g. student welcome week, residences events)
  • Draft short posts or messages for digital signage, residence newsletters, or social media
  • Taking part in content creation sessions with the Residences Marketing, E&F Digital Campaign Manager and Community Facilitators (e.g., brainstorming slogans or filming short promo videos)
  • Monitor energy consumption data on Power BI& a dedicated data platform and summarise key trends to inform messaging and the next campaign phase

Skills

Essential:

  • A current student at King\’s College London, preferably with experience living in or familiar with university-managed accommodation
  • Passion for sustainability and a genuine commitment to promoting environmentally responsible behaviour
  • Sociable and outgoing: Friendly, approachable, and confident in engaging with a diverse student & staff population
  • Effective communication skills and attention to detail: Particularly verbal, and written communication, as well as comfortable speaking publicly or presenting
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; able to manage multiple tasks
  • A reliable team player, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Desirable:

  • Experience working with or alongside residence life teams or student campaigns
  • Previous involvement in energy reduction, sustainability initiatives or related coursework is highly desirable
  • Creative skills, especially in digital content creation
  • Comfortable contributing to both on-the-ground and digital engagement efforts
  • Knowledge of energy data analysis and carbon emissions calculations
