This position is part of Williams Grand Prix Technologies, a Williams Group company.
The Design Engineer for Battery Systems will perform a pivotal role in electrification projects within Williams Grand Prix Technologies. By employing methodologies and expertise from motorsport and Formula 1, WGPT presents a unique opportunity to work with ground-breaking technologies in a number of areas including Aerospace, Motorsport, Marine, Industrial and Off Highway.

This role will require significant experience in the design of battery systems with a particular focus on inventive solutions packaging cells into modules, modules into packs and the electronics and power distribution components. Experience in a variety of markets and the technical solutions typically employed in those industries will be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creation of concepts and detailed design of components and structures required to create battery solutions from cell to vehicle or industrial installation.
- Focus on structurally efficient, cost-effective designs with a high level of attention to mass, HV safety and cost trade-off.
- Generation of calculations used to support structural and functional analysis of optimised designs.
- Act as primary interface to suppliers and component manufacturers in order to resolve manufacturing or delivery issues.
- Maintain high level of concise and clear communication, working with colleagues or suppliers in order to optimise design integration.
- Manage the formal release process in line with company processes.
- Creation of DVPs and a test and validation strategy to ensure designed components meet the system requirements. A specific focus on the requirements for certification (REG.100, UN38.3 as well as relevant marine and aerospace standards) is of particular importance.
- Support the programme team with project and technical reviews so that project milestones are successfully progressed.
- Represent WGPT in customer and supplier interactions.

About You:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Automotive engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience within the field of High Voltage battery systems in a number of different markets, including examples of concept to delivery of battery components.
- Expertise in a variety of areas including packaging of various cell formats, integration of electronics components and flexible PCBs as well as the design of structures to house high mass battery modules and power electronics.
- Proven experience with High Voltage and creepage and clearance requirements through all parts of the design lifecycle.
- Experience working in high-performance industries; such as motorsports, automotive, aerospace, or other dynamic environments.
Desirable Knowledge & Experience:
- Hands-on experience with HV Systems whilst verifying self designed products and components.
- Familiarity with different concepts associated with battery module design.
- Knowledge of safety and certification standards associated with a number of industries.
- Expert CAD skills, preferably Siemens NX.
