Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join UHBW as a Consultant in Care of the Elderly. This position is mainly based at Weston General Hospital, a site with 252 inpatient beds, an Ambulatory Care Centre and a busy Emergency Department with an embedded Geriatric Emergency Medical Service (GEMS).
The appointee will be part of the team supporting frailty admissions pathways and care of medical patients, with aims to deliver timely, safe care and increase numbers of early discharges. The role includes teaching junior staff and contributing to the development of Care of the Elderly services.

Main duties
The appointee will develop Care of the Elderly services, contribute to reducing unnecessary admissions, develop same-day emergency care pathways for the frail elderly, reduce length of stay, and work with system partners to ensure safe discharge. There will be a strong commitment to teaching and supervising junior staff in the management of elderly patients. The post involves potential cross-site working within the UHBW Trust as part of the job planning process.
Qualifications
Essential
- Fully registered with GMC. CCT (or equivalent) or CESR at the point of interview; candidates within 6 months of CCT are eligible. Must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatrics to start the appointment.
- Eligible for CESR training support; CESR applications are considered.

- Higher academic qualification (MD/PhD or equivalent)
