Overview

Health Care Support Worker – CAMHS (Band 3) at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. This role works closely with people who use our services, their families, friends and carers, and contributes to how people experience our services. Staff are expected to be kind, responsive, professional and informative, contributing to the quality of the services provided.

Responsibilities

  • Keep the people using our services as safe as possible by recognising the limits of the Health Care Assistant role and working closely with Registered Nurses.
  • Contribute to the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures when implementing care plans.
  • Ensure people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people when contributing to the implementation and evaluation of care plans.

Main duties

The successful post-holder will directly contribute to a positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team. As a Band 3 clinician, the post-holder will be required to account for their practice through regular supervision, appraisal and audit. This post offers opportunities for personal and professional development and experience of supporting young people in social and recreational activities, as well as attending to the environment of the Unit.

Although previous experience with young people is not essential, candidates should have an interest in working with this client group in an inpatient setting and the personal qualities needed to function effectively in a challenging environment, including commitment, resilience, positivity, personal warmth and excellent teamwork.

Essential criteria

  • Willingness to undertake Care Certificate and further training as required.
  • Numeracy and literacy skills to keep accurate records and administer medicines (if appropriate).
  • Spoken and written English to an appropriate standard to fulfill job requirements.

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

Previous experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of communicating with a range of people in a customer-focused environment.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable criteria

  • Healthcare/NHS or similar experience in community or hospital settings.
  • Volunteer sector experience.
  • Experience in a caring role and in mental health settings or with adults with mental health problems.

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria

  • IT skills: maintain electronic patient records; use Microsoft Word to draft letters and reports.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and follow care plans under supervision of Band 4 staff or registered Nurses.
  • Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and their impact on work with people.

Desirable criteria

  • Basic knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
