An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Ultrasound Team within the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, for two trainee sonographers.
We are looking for HCPC / NMC registered Health Care Professionals with a background in either imaging (Radiography) or Midwifery, to undertake a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Imaging at Derby University.
The practical element of the training will be delivered across NLAG with an expectation to travel between the main hospital sites of Dianna Princess of Wales Hospital and Scunthorpe General Hospital, with rotation out to the peripheral sites of Goole District Hospital and Louth County Hospital.
The successful candidates will be supported throughout their training by our Clinical Specialist Sonographer Mentors, so they can gain the competencies needed to independently perform ultrasound examinations and to complete their post graduate studies.
On successful completion of both the clinical and post graduate studies you would then begin a 6-12 month preceptorship period and work towards being signed off to independently report ultrasound examinations.
Main duties of the job

The post holder would be required to successfully apply for a PGCert in Medical Ultrasound with a Higher Education Provider and successfully complete the required ultrasound modules.
You will be expected to work closely with the sonographers
- to learn the skills to achieve and maintain a high standard in independently performing and reporting a minimum of 95% of all examinations.
- to learn the skills to vet and prioritise referrals in accordance with departmental guidelines.
You will be expected to:
- record care/treatment/advice/tests accurately and in an agreed format.
- be responsible for the accurate and appropriate use of information resources / systems whilst undertaking ultrasound examinations.
- learn how to communicate scan findings to the referring clinician and patient (if appropriate).
- provide information and advice to patients, relatives and other healthcare professionals about the limitations and the safe use of ultrasound.
- work as a reflective practitioner.
- learn the skills to participate in maintenance and testing of ultrasound equipment, reporting and recording faults as appropriate.
- undertake annual self audit of practice
- partake in annual appraisal process.
- arrange and undertake mandatory training as per the Trusts training policy and procedures, within the appropriate time frame.

Education/ Qualifications
- BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or DCR Equivalent or degree in Health related discipline with 1st Class Hons or 2:1.
