We are working with a highly respected regional construction and civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Head of Bid Management to lead their work winning division. This is a strategic leadership position with full responsibility for driving bid quality, performance, and alignment with business goals. You’ll oversee a multidisciplinary team including Bid Managers, Estimators, Coordinators, and Writers – ensuring delivery of compliant, compelling, and commercially competitive tenders across a range of infrastructure and civil engineering projects. Please note: this is a fully office-based role (Monday to Friday). Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Strategy * Provide clear direction and leadership to the bid team across all active tenders. * Drive the creation and delivery of effective bid strategies from inception to submission. * Ensure bids meet internal governance and industry compliance standards. * Report on bid progress, risks, and key decisions to senior leadership. Team Management & Development * Lead and support a team of Bid Managers and their direct reports. * Line management responsibilities including recruitment, performance reviews, and training. * Allocate team resources effectively across live tenders and key pursuits. * Promote a positive, accountable, and high-performance team culture. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with senior stakeholders across commercial, operations, procurement, planning, and HSEQ functions. Ensure buy-in from operational and delivery teams throughout the bid lifecycle. Influence cross-functional teams to contribute to quality submissions and remove barriers to success. Bid Delivery Chair regular bid team reviews and ensure deadlines are consistently met. Challenge and support technical, commercial, and pricing approaches to maximise win probability. Lead bid kick-offs, storyboarding, solution development, and lessons-learned sessions. Process Improvement Own and improve bid processes to promote innovation, consistency, and quality. Foster a culture of continuous improvement in work-winning approaches and outputs. Monitor and manage bid costs and performance metrics. Requirements: Proven experience leading bid teams within a UK-based construction or civil engineering environment. Strong knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contracts and industry procurement practices. Exceptional leadership, communication, and influencing skills. Experience managing high-value, complex, and multi-disciplinary tenders. Strong commercial and strategic thinking capabilities. Able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Fully office-based – must be willing to commute 5 days per week. Desirable: * Experience working on major frameworks or infrastructure programmes. * Track record of developing and mentoring high-performing bid teams. * Knowledge of industry software platforms used in bid production.
