Summary
The Pipefitter position is located at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. This position, modifies, maintains and repairs a variety of high, medium and low pressure piping systems.

Duties
- Inspecting, adjusting, cleaning, repairing plumbing fixtures and systems, steam operated equipment, heating and water systems, kitchen and laundry equipment, air compressors, medical compressed air systems, vacuum systems, oxygen systems and natural gas distribution systems.
- Make safety and preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems.
- Apply accepted steam fitting and pipefitting trade methods and techniques to solve issues that arise on site.
- Conduct preventive maintenance activities on steam fitting and plumbing equipment throughout a health care facility.
- Interpret and apply building plans and blueprints.
- Utilize shop mathematics and lay out such things as angles, arcs, and circles.
- Plan and layout the installation and modification of various systems and equipment.
- Conduct repairs and installations by use of ladders, scaffolding, and platforms in hard-to-reach places.
- Lay out and install piping, risers and flexible branches at the proper level and incline.
- Test systems and equipment for proper circulation, flow, pressure, leak-free joints, and proper drainage.
- Diagnose plumbing system malfunctions by isolating the problem, checking through the system, and making appropriate repairs or modifications.
Work Schedule: M-F, 8am-4:30pm.

Physical Requirements: The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard to reach places. The employee handles, lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, items may weigh more than 50 pounds.
