Our Careers Team supports young people in local schools and through their transitions into college, training, apprenticeships, university, and employment.

As a Trainee Careers Adviser, you’ll have the opportunity to work one-to-one with young people across schools, colleges, and those who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). You’ll manage a caseload of targeted and vulnerable young people, helping them overcome individual barriers to learning and supporting them to reach their full potential.

Your role will involve assessing needs, developing personalised plans, and delivering tailored support. You’ll also contribute to the delivery of Careers Education programmes in schools and colleges, helping to shape the future of young people in our community.

This is our fifth consecutive year of employing an apprentice, so you’ll be joining a team that truly understands the journey. You’ll work alongside colleagues who have taken this path themselves, gaining invaluable insight and support from a highly supportive, capable, friendly, and experienced team.

Please note this is a fixed term apprenticeship for up to 30 months

What skills and experience do you need?

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working for our community and has the following qualifications / experience:

  • Level 3 qualification or higher (in any subject or sector)
  • Minimum qualifications of English and Maths at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade 4/C or above / Functional Skills Level 2)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to the full duration of the apprenticeship — showing reliability, motivation, and readiness to balance work and study responsibilities
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills – apprenticeships are designed for those ready to grow through hands-on experience and training
  • Ability to organise own workload and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability or willingness to work towards independent travel around and outside of the Borough
