Renewable Energy Engineering – Senior Consultant at Piper Maddox
Job Title: Technical Manager
Location: Durham based HQ- hybrid model, with additional travel to site
Piper Maddox are working with a leading Independent Power Producer. With over 20 years of market establishment, my client are on a journey to grow their technical division through a crucial addition. You\’ll be joining an existing and successful team, working on varied and interesting projects across the country throughout the entire project lifecycle. They have developed a strong culture, valuing teamwork and internal development supporting all team members.
The team has various technical and development teams internally, working across onshore wind, solar and BESS. The team stands as 6 engineers, with this role having 2 direct reports from day one.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical insight and guidance at all project stages—from site selection to financial close.
- Work closely with development and delivery teams to resolve technical challenges and optimise site design.
- Oversee and coordinate specialist consultants to support project success.
- Contribute to securing approvals, consents, and stakeholder buy-in.
- Help manage technical risk and ensure smooth handover into construction.
- Support internal team development and process improvement.
- Step in for the Head of Technical when needed, helping lead the team.
Skills Required:
- Civil Engineering degree, chartership would be preferred.
- Solid Experience in renewable energy, wind preferred.
- Strong knowledge of project design, engineering risk, and construction contracts (e.g. NEC).
