About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital Charity funded study which aims to investigate the efficacy of a psychophysiological intervention called Balance-ACT for Long COVID, in the context of a randomised controlled trial.
The post-holder will join a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists working across the spectrum of physical and mental health. The work will be conducted from the College’s Denmark Hill Campus and will work closely with clinical colleagues in the community and hospital-based Long COVID services across King’s Health Partners; with strong links to the Centre for Human and Applied Physiological Sciences laboratories in the King’s College Hospital.
Under the supervision of Professor Trudie Chalder and Dr Caroline Jolley, the role will be responsible for recruiting patients who fulfil criteria for Post Covid Condition (PCC) into the study. They will assess eligibility for the study, gain consent and facilitate trial data collection through the patient trial journey.
Applicants will require a BSc in psychology (or a related area). It is desirable for the candidate to have an MSc in a related field and experience of research, in particular clinical trials in a healthcare setting. Training and supervision will be provided from a range of experts.
The post holder will be expected to work on campus and will be required to visit study sites on occasion including King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital.
This post will be offered on a full-time, fixed term contract until 01/09/2026.
About You
Essential criteria
- BSc (2:1 or above) in Psychology or relevant subject area.
- Good knowledge of theory as applied to the development of behavioural interventions
- Experience of conducting research in a health care setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of communicating effectively with diverse groups.
- Excellent organisation, prioritisation and time-management skills
- Ability to work within an interdisciplinary and diverse team, including with researchers, patients, health professionals and other agencies
- Experience of data collection, data entry and management of electronic data records.
- Knowledge of clinical trials and Good Clinical Practice.
Desirable criteria
- MSc in Health Psychology or related subject
- Basic statistical knowledge
- Experience in administering behavioural tests e.g. hand grip
