Who You Are

You are an experienced professional with substantial practical experience in Building Control, including commercial and industrial work, enforcement of Building Regulations, and plan examination. Your authoritative knowledge of relevant systems, regulations, legislation, and procedures is complemented by a deep understanding of building constructions and an appreciation of new methods and techniques. You possess a Full Corporate Membership in RICS, CABE, or CIOB and have achieved LABC Level 6 Competency. With excellent communication skills, you have the ability to converse effectively with diverse stakeholders and maintain high service standards. You demonstrate strong organisational skills, supervise and motivate staff effectively, and excel in both independent work and team collaboration. You are registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Registered Building Inspector, at least Class 2B for site inspections.

What the job involves

This role involves providing technical expertise in the administration and enforcement of the Building Act and Building Regulations within the Borough. You will manage developments, including plan checking and site inspections, to ensure compliance with regulations. You'll address dangerous structures and emergency situations, offering professional advice on building regulation applications and promoting the building control service. Responsibilities include supervising staff, providing mentor support, and engaging in continuous personal development. You will also coordinate with internal and external contacts like the London Fire Brigade, and be responsible for the commissioning and supervision of emergency work. The role requires maintaining accurate records, issuing certificates upon satisfactory completion, and preparing evidence for court proceedings, while supporting the Council's equal opportunities policy.
