The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Tobacco and Vapes Apprentice (Trading Standards) to join the Public Protection Team at Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council.
This post is fully funded by the Department of Health and Social Care for a period of 4 years. You will focus on tackling illegal and underage sales as well as supporting businesses to achieve compliance across a vast range of tobacco and vapes regulations designed to protect consumers and in particular children, while at the same time, working to gain a L6 professional qualification, across all areas of Trading Standards activity.
During the course of this contract, we will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside our experienced Trading Standards and Environmental Health officers to collect the evidence and experience you need to complete the apprenticeship with a clear focus on tackling illegal and underage sales as well as supporting businesses to achieve compliance within the regulatory area of Trading Standards,.
About You
The ideal candidate will be passionate and excited about joining and continuing to shape our service and enthusiastic about keeping the public safe by helping businesses comply. As an apprentice, you will be willing to bring and implement fresh ideas to the service and work alongside all officers across the teams
While there will be a focus on tobacco and vapes for the duration of the fixed-term-contract, candidates will also have the opportunity to gain experience and meet competencies in other areas required to gain the Trading Standards status.
You will be open to meeting people from a range of different backgrounds and visiting them in their businesses as well as speaking to them over the phone. You will therefore be expected to have good communication skills and an excellent telephone manner, with an eagerness to learn and develop on an individual and team basis.
