Overview:
Overview

The Power Plant Mechanic is experienced in all phases of steam generation, maintenance of boilers, chillers, and auxiliary equipment. Responsibilities include monitoring power plant equipment; reading and interpreting control circuits, schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and specifications to determine proper operation. This individual tests, maintains, and repairs power plant equipment; monitors contractor\’s work to ensure quality and code compliance.

Refrig Recovery Cert Type II, or Universal certification required. Refrig Recovery Cert Type III preferred. Driver\’s License. Backflow Prevention Device tester\’s license required in most facilities. For positions at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, Power Plant Operating Engineer 3rd Class or Third Class Stationary Engineer by the District of Columbia preferred.

Education

  • High School or Trade school

Certification/Licensure

  • Drivers License VA or NC, in good standing
  • Refrig and Recovery Certification I or II

Experience

  • 1 year of previous required experience
  • Licensure for Vehicle/VA or NC required/good standing with no points/record
  • Previous commercial experience or Medical facility experience preferred
  • On Site/Sentara Norfolk General Hospital
  • Mission Essential Personnel—must be open to working call/rotating weekends
