Overall Purpose of the Role:
Aptus is seeking a fully qualified and experienced Lighting Designer based at our Head Office in Bolton to complement our existing design and installation teams. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in lighting design and be capable of undertaking designs for various schemes, including private lighting projects, new S38 developments, or highway lighting renewal/removal for local authorities.
What you will be doing:
- Liaise with developers to determine the full scope of works and produce quotations based on requirements.
- Design using Lighting Reality, DIALux, Relux, and AutoCAD.
- Prepare cable calculations and schematic diagrams using Amtech or similar software.
- Coordinate with Local Authorities for lighting assessments and design approvals.
- Understand DNO & IDNO LV networks to determine supplies to columns.
- Provide guidance to clients regarding existing lighting issues.

- ILP Exterior Lighting Diploma (modules 1-4).
- Proficient with BS:5489 Road Lighting Code of Practice.
- Experience with lighting contracts.
- Ability to interpret working drawings and requirements.
- Provide quotations for design services.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Flexible working hours and availability.
- Proficient in AutoCAD & Microsoft Office.
- Full driving license for site visits.
- BS7671 18th Edition wiring regulations (preferred).
- Ability to visually identify lanterns and components.
- Experience with Lighting Reality – Best Practice & Advanced.
- Knowledge of G39 – Working near DNO equipment.
- Current ILP Membership.
