We are working with a range of organisations to design and build the 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 – Britain\’s new high‑speed railway. The role will be based on site in Birmingham (Flexible Working) – Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, BBV Sub‑Lots, HS2 offices.
Role Responsibilities
- Guide the best strategy (including optimum NEC option) for packages to be procured.
- Manage new packages through a Commercial Compliance route in conjunction with HS2 ‘Clause 26’ and HS2 Works Information Requirements.
- Oversee the Contractor’s Project Procurement Plan and ensure it is kept up to date.
- Own key Procurement Commercial Compliance Documents/Forms and Procedures.
- Manage previously existing Clause 26 packages that continue to have outstanding actions to complete approval.
- Support internal departmental audits of the Procurement Process and manage the close‑out process for identified areas of concern.
- Lead for BBV on external audits of the Procurement and Supply Chain Department and manage the close‑out process for identified areas of concern.
- Operate as a day‑to‑day contact for the HS2 Commercial Team in all Procurement‑related matters.
Experience Required
- Substantial commercial knowledge of project procurement and evidence of delivering successful collaborative projects with sub‑contractors and suppliers.
- A credible leader who can adapt style to teach, coach, mentor or delegate, as appropriate, and has managed large teams.
- Ability to influence to win hearts and minds, focusing on exceeding service expectations by delivering an agile, value‑adding service.
- Demonstrable stakeholder management skills and effective communication with stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally.
- Evidence of having developed and implemented change programmes and new ways of working.
- Track record in commercial management, strategic sourcing, negotiation, process compliance, and supplier integration into project teams.
- Solid understanding of NEC Contracts, subcontracting and framework contract creation and management.
- Experience of procurement and commercial management within Construction and Civil Engineering, particularly in major projects.
- Emotional intelligence and ability to challenge current thinking and norms to drive improved collaboration.
- Experience working with the supply chain to deliver the right culture and behaviours.
- Understanding of legal frameworks and contract law.
- Analytical skills, numerically astute with well‑developed problem‑solving abilities.
- Results‑driven, passionate about work, and able to plan and deliver against bid/project milestones.
